RACICE 2022 RECAP
Karolien Florijn from the Netherlands won her first world championship in the single, just breaking clear water on Kiwi Olympic champion Emma Twigg in the sprint to the finish line. Tara Rigney of Australia held off a strong spring from Shiyu Lu of China to claim the bronze medal with Great Britain's Hannah Scott finishing in fifth.

2023 SEASON RECAP
Defending champion Florijn picked up right where she left off in 2022, winning both events she's raced this season, World Cup III and the European Championship. Tara Rigney of Australia won the silver medal at both World Cup II and World Cup III.
Additional medalists of note this summer have been New Zealand sculler Emma Twigg (bronze at WC3), American Kara Kohler (bronze at WC2, and Germany's Alexandra Foester (gold at WC2). Then Aurelia Janzen of Switzerland is the reigning U23 champion and won silver at both World Cup I and Europeans. Also of note, Olympic silver medalist Anna Prakaten of Russia, raced to a fifth place finish at World Cup III, racing for Uzbekistan, her first international race since the Tokyo Olympics.
USA PROSPECTS
Kara Kohler returns as the single sculler for the USA, and she will be looking to make the A Final in Belgrade. She has had up and down results in the event since finishing third in 2019, but raced well in her only international appearance in 2023, winning the bronze medal at World Cup II in Varese. At a minimum, Kohler will be looking to secure one of the nine qualification spots for the Paris Olympics, ideally making the A Final.
MEDAL PICKS
Florijn is the heavy favorite to take the gold in Belgrade and is unbeaten over 2k since moving to the single in 2022. Rigney and Twigg have both been fast this year, and could repeat the podium from Racice with Florijn. Other potential finalists who could challenge for the podium are Kohler, Foester, Janzen, Prakaten, Lobnig (AUT), Arsic (SRB), and Angelova (BUL).
GOLD – NETHERLANDS
SILVER – NEW ZEALAND
BRONZE - AUSTRALIA
